This project was inspired by an evening with an Inuit throat singer, who, after some amazing throat singing demonstrations, showed me (and two others) a few of the hundred laughing games played in Nunavut. What an incredible culture, that systematically incorporates so much laughter into daily life! After laughing and laughing, we felt so energized and joyous, it made me wonder: “What if laughter were the new coffee?!”. So I made the laughter bar for Nocturne, Halifax’s free art at night festival. Anyone could come in, order a laugh off the menu, to be delivered by some of the best laughers in town. The sound of the laughter was projected out the windows into the streets. Payment was received in units of laughter.
